She toiled and toiled and toiled some more,
She gave and gave and gave some more…
Hoping that someday a thank you would come,
Or may be a smile to make her heart warm…
But only disapproval and annoyance came her way,
They threw up their arms and cringed in dismay.
She started again; and toiled even more,
This time she toiled till she went sore.
Hoping that a word of praise would come,
Or may be a gesture to light up the glum…
But more criticism and rebuff came her way,
And that is when her nerves started to fray.
She toiled and toiled and toiled as before,
But this time she knew not to expect any more.
A day came when it was her turn to die,
They came crying to bid her goodbye.
They told her that they felt very sad,
And if there was any last wish that she had.
But there was nothing she could ask for,
That part of her had died long before.
